"I recently ordered hatching eggs from Ancona Acres. From the very first message Angie was above any other. She was willing to actually address concerns and questions that I had before jumping into incubating eggs again. Any time I had questions, I would send a message and would get an almost immediate response from her. When she noticed that it was getting close to hatch day, she reached out to see how it was going. Her customer service is next level, and she actually does care about her clients being 100% satisfied."

  • Do you have any females for sale?
We only sell females in the fall, after we have sorted through our flock and have decided which females will continue on to breed for the following spring. Anything we have currently available is listed on our website.
  • Are Anconas an auto-sexing breed?
Yes and no. If you only have a chocolate/lavender drake and black ducks, all male offspring will be black/blue and all female offspring will be chocolate/lavender. All other color combinations produce both sexes. Our ducks and drakes are a variety of colors, so we cannot tell sex at hatching.
  • Are tricolors good to keep in my flock?
We believe yes, with some guidelines. First, if you are only wanting ducks for eggs, pets, or meat, then tricolors are absolutely fine. Now, for breeding...There are two schools of thought. One says that tricolors should be culled, or removed, from a breeding program because they do not produce the broken pattern. We fall in line with the second school of thought that aligns with Dave Holderread. Anconas are a landrace breed. They are not standardized. No matter what, they will never breed 100% true. We believe that tricolors are very useful to a breeding program. They are good for genetic diversity and are usually larger in size. For more information, please check out the Facebook group Heritage Ancona Ducks and type "tricolor" in the search bar. See what others are saying!
  • Are ducklings sexed?
No, ducklings are sold straight run. We don't vent sex for several reasons: 1) We have never been trained to safely vent sex and would never risk injuring ducklings, 2) We honestly do not want to be left with a ton of males to process each fall, and 3) It still isn't 100% accurate. Like most everyone else, we have to wait until our ducks become juveniles at about six weeks before we can voice sex. It is crucial that you have a plan in place for extra males you end up with.
  • What is an FAQ section?
An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
